Gaelle Couraud, Director of Communications, and I, Olivia Dasté, International Communication Officer, returned yesterday from Los Angeles where we held the Cap Digital workstation at the E3 game show. Thankfully, the mission allowed us to go beyond the role of dolled-up booth bunnies and we were able to learn about some video games’ coolest innovations. In our spare time, we of course tried out as many games as possible in each of the LA Downtown Convention Center’s massive halls (though be forewarned if you ever want to go on a tradeshow floor before it is completely complete, you too may be called into a small dark administrative bureau and have to sign a formal “open toe shoe waiver…”).

Pulled by our friendly colleagues Nicolas LeGoff from UbiFrance and Johan-André Jeanville from Capital Games, we tried highly entertaining dance and karaoke games which proved to be much more fun than imagined (for the audience). It didn’t matter whether we were any good, we had a good hour of solid fun. All in all, Just Dance 2 got raving reviews from us. We also got a chance to see the Deus Ex 3: Human revolution trailer, a game that should be out next year. And really, we were stunned. Absolutely speechless and mesmerized in front of the exceptional quality of image, sound, and game play presented to us. This was what we had come for.

Cap Digital’s very cool gaming companies UACARI, WIZARBOX, BULKYPIX, VOXLER, LOAD INC, and Darkworks also contributed vividly to the richness, expertise, and variety of the show’s attractions. Nintendo’s 3DS was one of the show’s main highlights and though Gaelle and I tried to get a go at it, seems like we just weren’t select enough to be on the VVVVVvip list. Oh well. I was actually very happy to play Super Mario Brothers 3 again, its only innovation being the wireless control. I was better at it when I was 10, no big surprise, but the fun was intact.
