The First Video Game Museum is Opening in France!
Opening of the First Video Game Museum in France on Wednesday April 14, 2010
Press Release – 02.24.2010
Together, Le Toit de la Grande Arche de la Défense and the communication agency Alerte Orange are presenting the first video game museum in France. The official opening will be held Wednesday April 14, 2010 at 10am on the last floor of La Grande Arche.
Le Toit de la Grande Arche was already behind the first computer science museum, initiated by Philippe Nieuwbourg. It solicited Alerte Orange after their “Retrogaming: 30 years of video game” exposition in Paris last summer, welcoming an enthusiastic public and stimulating wide scale interest.
With the support of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, and within the framework of the 2010 call for projects on innovative digital cultural services by Cap Digital, NRJ, Game One and many other partners, the Musée du Jeu Vidéo will find its place next to the Musée de l’Informatique (the computer science museum) and will be open every day of the week.
This is the first space entirely dedicated to video games and accessible to everyone. The museum will follow the history of video games, illustrated by the most emblematic consoles, and by less popular machines. Over 200 pieces will be presented to visitors as well as portraits of famous game developers and Game Culture icons to better understand the cultural phenomenon.
Conceived for the nostalgic and for those interested in this booming digital art form, this place plans to democratize and promote the video entertainment culture for the general public.
So that your favorite hobby may finally be recognized as cultural, come support the video game museum!
